Birthwork Pathway

Become a doula. Practice with integrity.

A complete developmental pathway – from first curiosity to sustainable, justice-centred practice.

You might feel the pull toward birth work.

You might already know you want to become a doula. But you want to do it properly.

Not quickly. Not superficially. Not divorced from history, culture, or responsibility.

This pathway prepares you – and then supports you – to practise with depth, integrity, and sustainability.

How The Pathway Works

This is a developmental journey.

Birthwork is not a single course. It is formation.

Our pathway moves through five stages:

Exploration → Preparation → Ethical Grounding → Sustainability → Leadership

Each stage builds on the last.

Stage 1: Exploration

Answering The Call

You’re curious. You’re pulled toward this work. But you need clarity before commitment.

When Birth Work Calls (£47)

A powerful audio exploration of what birthwork truly asks of you – emotionally, politically, practically.

This is not hype.

It is orientation.

Stage 2: Preparation

Becoming a doula

This is where you learn your craft.

Birth Doula Course

A doula preparation course is just what it says… a course that prepares you to become a doula. Once you have completed the Abuela Doula Preparation course, you will be able to begin to work as a doula. However, this is just the beginning as we emphasise the importance of extended study after the course.

Postnatal Sankofa

The postnatal course is about going deeper into the cultural practices and traditions of different people groups and family set ups. It is about nurturing and nourishing the new parent.

You will have the opportunity to look back into your own cultural heritage and how bringing ancestral wisdom forward aids your work as a postnatal doula.

Stage 3: Ethical Grounding

Rooting yourself in justice

Birthwork sits inside power structures. Neutrality is not an option.

Cultivating Liberation

Cultivating Liberation is a six-week live, intimate container where awareness becomes embodied anti-racist practice.

This is not introductory training. It is a practice space.

The focus is on self-awareness, relational accountability, and community practice so that anti-racism becomes something you live, not something you understand.

Stage 4: Sustainability

Building work that lasts

Passion alone does not sustain a birthworker.

Business for Birthworkers

It’s time to change the narrative of business as a birthworker and to that end we are going to spend eight weeks looking at all things business. This starts with your mindset and your relationship with your business. We then move towards strategy and obstacles. By the end of the eight weeks at least one area of your business will be transformed.

Stage 5: Depth & Leadership

Stepping into Leadership

This is where the integration happens.

Branches of Legacy

Anti-racism isn’t a destination – it’s a practice. Branches of Legacy is for birthworkers ready to go deeper, weaving anti-racism into every layer of their work. This is intimate, high-touch, transformational work.

Six months of high-touch 1:1 work embedding everything you’ve learned into your systems, relationships, and leadership.

The Legacy Collective

Legacy Collective is the membership for people who have completed any of my courses and want ongoing practice, ongoing perspective, and ongoing accountability. Not more information for the sake of it. Not more “content” to consume. A place to stay honest, keep integrating, and keep moving in a way that matches your values.

For those ready to fully commit

Build your practice properly from the ground up.

Rooted: The Vault

If you know you want to move through the full pathway intentionally, The Vault gives you everything:

  • Birth Prep
  • Sankofa
  • Business for Birthworkers
  • Cultivating Liberation
  • Branches of Legacy
  • 6 months inside Legacy Collective

Structured. Supported. Sustainable.

This is not fast-track certification.

This is a developmental journey.

We do not produce large volumes of doulas. We cultivate birthworkers who:

  • Understand the political context of their work

  • Practise with cultural humility

  • Build sustainable income

  • Lead with integrity

If you are ready for that – begin at the stage that meets you.
