No. You don’t need any medical background or previous experience to begin doula training. Abuela Doulas welcomes people from all walks of life. What matters is your desire to support birthing people with compassion, respect, and integrity.

There is no formal government certification for doulas in the UK. What matters is the training you choose and the ethos behind it. Abuela Doulas offers recognised doula training that equips you with the skills, confidence, and justice-centred awareness to support families from pregnancy through postnatal life.

Our core training takes place over 6 months (Rooted) or 4 intensive days (Birth Course, Postnatal Course), with a mix of live sessions, practice, and reflective learning. After the course, you’ll continue growing with ongoing mentorship and a supportive doula community.

Yes. Abuela Doulas offers online doula training as well as in-person options. Both are designed to be interactive, supportive, and rooted in the same ethos of inclusion and justice.

Abuela Doulas stands apart because we train doulas with an explicit commitment to reproductive justice, anti-racism, and inclusion.
