Nic Shepherd

Bio

I live in Selsey, by the sea, with my husband and my two children. My first daughter’s birth was traumatic and I felt as though I was not in control, with no knowledge or understanding of the process I was going through. I decided after the birth of my second daughter that I wanted to be involved in the birth world, to help other people giving birth to know their rights and to feel supported and powerful. When not supporting parents I can be found either taking photos or sipping a nice glass of prosecco (or sometimes both).

Bio

I believe that birth is a sacred and powerful rite of passage that can be positive and empowering. Having a doula ensures that you have continuity of care, access to accurate information and an experienced guide along this journey who can hold and protect the space for you. I listen with an open heart helping you to identify your preferences and support your decisions. If you have a partner, I work with him/her to approach the birth with confidence. The feedback that I most receive from clients is that I bring a sense of calm. And we laugh a lot! I am a co-founder of Birthing in Colour.

Bio

I live in the Southside of Glasgow with my son Sam and husband Steven. I am a yoga teacher and studio owner. I was brought up on a small holding so I’m an animal lover and I have a bulldog named Mogwai. I studied French and Spanish at university and lived and worked abroad before settling back in Scotland. I love cooking, swimming and yoga. Making my passion for yoga into a career has been a really rewarding experience and I chose to broaden this to include postnatal care. I passionately believe that the concept of a struggling mother doing everything on her own should be challenged. Modern day living is a solitary experience except motherhood was never set up to be that way. As the saying goes it takes a village and rightly so.

Bio

“It takes a village to raise a child”, I want to bring back the village and bring back the support. Every parent at some stage will face difficulty. This can be anything from staying on top of the laundry to coping with perinatal depression and everything in between. For such a rewarding job it also creates many obstacles: Mum guilt, self-doubt, feeling judged or misunderstood, dealing with physical changes, changes in relationships…. The list is endless and we are never alone…. Even when it feels like it. What if you had somewhere to go, someone to call or something to do to help you through those difficult moments. Somewhere safe, somewhere fun, somewhere with the information and support you need without any judgement.

I am a full spectrum queer doula. I have worked within the childcare industry for 20 years. I am one of 9 children and I have 19 nieces and nephews. I was called to doula life after helping my youngest sibling through postnatal depression. I trained initially with Younique Postnatal and then with Abuela Doula for a more culturally competent approach. I have also attended a workshop with Trystan Reese on how to work with transgender and non-binary parents.

Bio

I’m a music loving urban gardener, yoga enthusiast, and where there’s music you’ll find me on the dance floor. I entered the world of birth and babies in 2019 as a volunteer supporting vulnerable pregnant women including refugees and those with limited or no family support.
As a previous headteacher I have loving memories of working alongside families with children aged 4 – 18 including those with Special Needs. Since becoming part of the birthing world, very few of those memories compare with the joys of supporting birth and transition. Through my previous career, I’ve learnt to be flexible and adaptable especially when having to deal with sometimes unpredictable situations.I’ve completed the Abuela Birth Preparation and Postnatal Sankofa training and I’m open to providing antenatal, birth and postnatal support. I’m here to walk beside you, hold your hand (if you want me to), and to have your back when you’re at your most vulnerable, but most of all I want to be the doula suited to your needs.
