Krishinda Powers-Duff

Bio

As a former UK midwife I have over 10 years of experience helping women and their families in pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and the postnatal period. I pride myself on giving holistic loving care based on clinical and traditional midwifery skills. My years of experience working in both Spain and the UK have allowed me to become the kind of well-rounded caregiver that I feel women sincerely need. I have confidence in women and birthing peoples ability to grow, birth and nurture their babies and I support you along the way to find this confidence in yourself. At present I am able to provide Breast/chest feeding support, postnatal coaching and restfulness coaching online and have great success in doing this with families around Europe. Although our sessions may be online I ensure that you have access to my care and support as much as needed and with my years of experience and love for teaching, I ensure that each parent whom I support is able to achieve their goals whether they are feeding, postnatal or restfulness (supporting your baby to rest and sleep well) goals.

Nicola Mahdiyyah Goodall

Bio

Nicola has been birth for over 20 years helping women through their journeys alongside her own births and raising her family. Officially trained in 2002 with Michel Odent as one of the first Paramana Doulas, she was a founding member of the Scottish Doula Network, after she moved to Edinburgh, where she still resides. She works actively not only as a doula, but is also part of many different initiatives which promote natural childbirth. Becoming the main facilitator for the Mindful Doulas training programme, gave her the experience and push to found the Red Tent Doulas training initiative in 2014 which has taken off in several countries worldwide. Nicola is also the director of the Wysewomen workshops – a series of learning circles aimed at women sharing with women through storytelling, publications and healthy social media, to bring back traditional practices in our modern world. Red Tent now includes End of Life doula, traditional postpartum, TCM and educator preparation. As a very active member of the childbirth movement both within the UK and Europe, she can often be found co-teaching workshops with other midwives and doulas (Loving the Mother, Da A Luz), giving very eloquent, fluent talks at birth conferences and universities, giving amazing TED talks and generally offering endless time and
commitment to students, birthkeepers, mothers and birth activists to assist them on their journeys.
2019 saw Nicola release her first book 10 Oils: Aromatherapy Oils for the Childbearing Year.
Red Tent has always worked hard to make sure everyone has access to good preparation and support when becoming a birthkeeper and also a parent. As a Muslim she’s seen that this is frequently inaccessible. Particularly providing a safe space for those who have failed to find one before. She works alongside national heroine Mars Lord to facilitate dialogue around race and medical disparities internationally. Her favourite workshop they co-facilitate is Cultural Safety for the Perinatal Period.
Nicola is a very direct and honest jewel of information who never ceases to inspire others to be the change they wish to see in the world.

Oorooj Qadri

Their Services

Bio

I am Oorooj Qadri, a mother of an aspiring gymnast living in West London. I had a dream where I could help mothers have an amazing birth experience like I did. I was fortunate to have support and love when my son was born. Living in London, it is easy for women who are expecting or new mums to be side lined. People saying ‘just get on with it like I did!’ is a negative connotation to someone that has to learn to be a mother from scratch, not knowing what to expect.
I see pregnancy, birth, and the growth of a family as one of the most beautiful things about humanity.
After going through my first pregnancy, I felt this amazing empowerment and connection with my body, my partner and my child. The experience was intense and overwhelming, but also very very awesome, and I was grateful to have my own Doula type of person there to nurture and keep me balanced throughout the process. I felt then that it was my calling to become one myself.

Georgie BHS

Their Services

Bio

Hello! I’m Georgie, I’m the Doula in your corner. I have two young children, I home educate and love being with families.
When I was pregnant, I realised the choices I was being offered were not all the options truly available, and I began supporting families to find the information they wanted to make their own choices. As an Abuela doula, l love collaborating with a pregnant person as they discuss their dreams, unravel the information around and feel their own path for their birth. This extends beyond the birth into the first few weeks or months of becoming a parent, as the family work out sleeping, feeding, nutrition for the body and the mind, whilst they connect with their little human. This might be in person, or virtually.
I’m always learning, on courses or from the wonderful humans around me. I’m a Breastfeeding Supporter with ABM and trained with Holistic Sleep Coaching to provide better access for families to hear about potentially non-mainstream ideas.
I love working with families are who feel like they want to be heard, that if their birth ticks every box on the plan or if the plan was crumpled into a ball, they are honoured and celebrated. You might want your doula sitting in the corner quietly whilst you’re in your zone, or standing beside you as an ally. That they are connected, supported, and lifted whilst they move from pregnant to parent.

Lorna Phillip

Bio

Known as ‘Birmingham Doula’, Lorna has a passion for pregnancy, birth and supporting parents in the postnatal period. As a birth and postnatal doula, she works with expectant families throughout the Midlands region and further afield, preparing them for birth, supporting them during labour and the first few weeks of parenthood.
Alongside her birth work, Lorna also provides a number of complimentary therapies such as massage for fertility and womb health, yoni steams and traditional postnatal belly wrapping.
Qualifying as a nursery nurse in 1987, Lorna has over 30 years’ experience of supporting young children and their families. She came to doulaing through her role as deputy manager of a Children’s Centre. When listening to women’s stories of birth and early parenting, it became apparent that there was a lack of support, the kind of support that could make a significant difference to the lives of mothers, partners, children and families.
She completed her doula training course in 2012 and has worked steadily to become one of the region’s most popular and well-respected doulas.
