Georgie BHS

Their Services

Bio

Hello! I’m Georgie, I’m the Doula in your corner. I have two young children, I home educate and love being with families.
When I was pregnant, I realised the choices I was being offered were not all the options truly available, and I began supporting families to find the information they wanted to make their own choices. As an Abuela doula, l love collaborating with a pregnant person as they discuss their dreams, unravel the information around and feel their own path for their birth. This extends beyond the birth into the first few weeks or months of becoming a parent, as the family work out sleeping, feeding, nutrition for the body and the mind, whilst they connect with their little human. This might be in person, or virtually.
I’m always learning, on courses or from the wonderful humans around me. I’m a Breastfeeding Supporter with ABM and trained with Holistic Sleep Coaching to provide better access for families to hear about potentially non-mainstream ideas.
I love working with families are who feel like they want to be heard, that if their birth ticks every box on the plan or if the plan was crumpled into a ball, they are honoured and celebrated. You might want your doula sitting in the corner quietly whilst you’re in your zone, or standing beside you as an ally. That they are connected, supported, and lifted whilst they move from pregnant to parent.

Lorna Phillip

Bio

Known as ‘Birmingham Doula’, Lorna has a passion for pregnancy, birth and supporting parents in the postnatal period. As a birth and postnatal doula, she works with expectant families throughout the Midlands region and further afield, preparing them for birth, supporting them during labour and the first few weeks of parenthood.
Alongside her birth work, Lorna also provides a number of complimentary therapies such as massage for fertility and womb health, yoni steams and traditional postnatal belly wrapping.
Qualifying as a nursery nurse in 1987, Lorna has over 30 years’ experience of supporting young children and their families. She came to doulaing through her role as deputy manager of a Children’s Centre. When listening to women’s stories of birth and early parenting, it became apparent that there was a lack of support, the kind of support that could make a significant difference to the lives of mothers, partners, children and families.
She completed her doula training course in 2012 and has worked steadily to become one of the region’s most popular and well-respected doulas.

Nic Shepherd

Bio

I live in Selsey, by the sea, with my husband and my two children. My first daughter’s birth was traumatic and I felt as though I was not in control, with no knowledge or understanding of the process I was going through. I decided after the birth of my second daughter that I wanted to be involved in the birth world, to help other people giving birth to know their rights and to feel supported and powerful. When not supporting parents I can be found either taking photos or sipping a nice glass of prosecco (or sometimes both).

I believe that birth is a sacred and powerful rite of passage that can be positive and empowering. Having a doula ensures that you have continuity of care, access to accurate information and an experienced guide along this journey who can hold and protect the space for you. I listen with an open heart helping you to identify your preferences and support your decisions. If you have a partner, I work with him/her to approach the birth with confidence. The feedback that I most receive from clients is that I bring a sense of calm. And we laugh a lot! I am a co-founder of Birthing in Colour.

Laura Rice

Their Services

Bio

I live in the Southside of Glasgow with my son Sam and husband Steven. I am a yoga teacher and studio owner. I was brought up on a small holding so I’m an animal lover and I have a bulldog named Mogwai. I studied French and Spanish at university and lived and worked abroad before settling back in Scotland. I love cooking, swimming and yoga. Making my passion for yoga into a career has been a really rewarding experience and I chose to broaden this to include postnatal care. I passionately believe that the concept of a struggling mother doing everything on her own should be challenged. Modern day living is a solitary experience except motherhood was never set up to be that way. As the saying goes it takes a village and rightly so.

Leah Lewin

Bio

“It takes a village to raise a child”, I want to bring back the village and bring back the support. Every parent at some stage will face difficulty. This can be anything from staying on top of the laundry to coping with perinatal depression and everything in between. For such a rewarding job it also creates many obstacles: Mum guilt, self-doubt, feeling judged or misunderstood, dealing with physical changes, changes in relationships…. The list is endless and we are never alone…. Even when it feels like it. What if you had somewhere to go, someone to call or something to do to help you through those difficult moments. Somewhere safe, somewhere fun, somewhere with the information and support you need without any judgement.
